August Market Update: Continued HGV Driver Issues

In the aftermath of both Brexit and COVID-19, driver shortages have been a huge issue facing the UK logistics sector this year. The various factors surrounding driver shortages (read more on that here) have been further compounded with some companies poaching drivers away from freight and containerised transport and into retail logistics.

Some companies are offering drivers higher wages, better working hours and even a one-off signing on fee to join them. Furthermore, we also understand surcharges are being imposed onto loads to offset the cost of higher pay to retain their critical resource.

Although this is a new development, we will be watching this closely as we move into Q4 and 2022, and will keep you updated.
