What is nano stretch film?

Nano stretch film is a film used to secure palletised loads. Nano stretch film is made up of multiple microscopic layers that not only reduce the thickness of the film (when compared to standard films) but has higher strength and stretch capabilities, whilst retaining a strong holding force on the pallet.

Our nano stretch film is of the highest quality, and we are proud to have nano certification for all of our nano stretch films.


How many layers does nano film contain?  And why is that important?

Lindum’s nano stretch film contains 33 or 55 individual layers. Each layer has its own unique properties to create the strong, thin film with incredible stretch capabilities. Why is that important? The film provides improved performance and a significant reduction in the amount of film (and ultimately plastic) that is used.

Why is nano stretch film more expensive than standard stretch film?

Made from multiple layers, nano stretch film is made using the highest grade polymers (C6 and C8) which have been developed by Dowe Chemicals and ExxonMobil. The raw materials used in the manufacture are not spot bought and are 100% guaranteed meaning the highest quality raw materials and 100% consistency.

Furthermore, the manufacture of nano, with its multiple layers and high quality raw materials– when compared to standard – means it’s a more expensive product.

It is worth considering however that one of the benefits of nano stretch film is its stretch capabilities. Therefore,  it is more expensive than standard films but you may use less in the long run which makes the cost in use less than that of standard films.


Is it worth the extra price?

The cost per roll isn’t quite the full picture. Although a roll of nano may be more expensive than a standard roll of stretch film, due to its stretch capabilities (up to 400%) one metre of nano film, can stretch up to five metres when stretched and applied. Therefore you use less and ultimately you can wrap more pallets per roll than standard film.

Why nano over standard stretch film?

Depending entirely on what you are wrapping, and your packaging operations, nano has it’s own unique set of benefits to it. If you are using high speed wrapping machines, up to 180RPM that stretch the film, then nano is a great choice. Why nano over standard? Unrivalled stretch capabilities, high strength, high puncture and tear resistance, improves load stability and reduces the amount of plastic you use. All whilst minimising downtime, for the highest productivity levels.

Can we get nano film in different colours?

Currently, we don’t offer nano in any different colours – only clear. The only variation to our nano range is a nano film made with 30% recycled content. So the same nano performance, but with the added benefit of 30% less virgin plastic and not liable under the Plastic Packaging Tax.


Stretch % – what is total elongation vs usable stretch?

The usable stretch of a film is the level the film needs to be stretched to in order to get maximum yield for the job in hand. In our stretch film strain force diagram you can see this demonstrated at phase 3, where the stretch gives maximum yield and lockout. This important point in the stretch of the film means there’s sufficient elasticity for the film to wrap without snapping. A good analogy here would be if a maximum speed of a car is 115mph, you might be able to drive it to that speed, but you don’t always drive the car at that speed.
